How the free days work

There is no online sale. Tickets go out in order of arrival at two offices: Piazza del Colosseo, by the Temple of Venus and Rome, and Largo della Salara Vecchia. The Colosseum keeps its slots and its 75 to 90 minutes inside; the Forum and the Palatine are open as usual. The Forum Pass SUPER is not valid on free Sundays, and the Domus Aurea is closed on the first Sunday.

Plan around: a free Sunday is the standard route plus a queue. The underground, the arena and the attic cannot be booked that day.

Who pays €2

Citizens of the European Union aged 18 to 25 pay €2 for the standard ticket and for the Full Experience tickets, with an identity document at the gate. The night visit has its own reduced price of €28 against €50. Children's prices are on the official ticket shop, ticketing.colosseo.it.

Plan around: the €2 ticket is still a timed ticket, booked 30 days ahead like the full-price one.

What is free on any day

The outside of the Colosseum is free from Piazza del Colosseo, and so is the Arch of Constantine between the Colosseum and the Palatine. Via dei Fori Imperiali looks down on the Forum over the fence, and the arcades are lit at night. Only the Tuesday and Thursday night visit goes inside after dark, on a €50 ticket.

Plan around: the arch and the piazza are the place to wait for your slot.
